MINT & ORANGE HOT TODDY

MINT AND ORANGE HOT TODDYFor those of you unaware a hot toddy is an alcoholic drink traditionally made using whiskey and served hot. The original recipe requires lemon juice and cinnamon but I decided to mix it up a bit and use orange juice and mint leaves. The result was a refreshingly unusual drink that sure is tasty! Here’s what to do if you wish to make your own; Combine together 2 shots (~60ml) of Whiskey (I used Jack Daniels) with 2 shots of orange juice, 1 cup of boiling water and a teaspoon of honey. Stir until the honey have disolved. Serve with an orange slice (or 2) and a small bunch of mint leaves. This recipe makes 2 drinks. Enjoy!

BLOODY MARY. BLOODY MARY…

Fresh Tomato juice or Bloody Mary

The thought of a chilled tomato and tabasco cocktail isn’t something that I would usually find appealing. Having said this after finally taking the plunge and trying a Bloody Mary for the first time this past weekend I was left pleasantly suprised. Who would have thought that I, the biggest sweet-tooth (Check out all these recipes!) would much prefer a crisp spicy bloody mary over a fruity cocktail. I got a tad experimental and had a crack at concocting my own recipe. Here’s what I came up with;

In a cocktail shaker with ice combine 1 cup of fresh tomato juice with 2 shots of vodka, a dash of tabasco sauce, a sprinkle of celery salt, the juice of 1/2 a lime and teaspoon of worcestershire sauce. Shake until well combined. Strain into a glass and garnish with a stalk of celery and/or a wedge of lime. Enjoy!

EASY WATERMELON LEMONADE

In my opinion there’s nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a glass of ice cold lemonade. The only downfall has to be the copious amount of sugar found in most recipes. Wanting to avoid the sugar overload and not being a mass fan of artificial sweetener I got creative in the kitchen and created a lemonade as sweet as the original but without the addition of any sugar. What did I use to sweeten you may ask? Nothing other than fresh watermelon.

In a blender combine 3 cups of fresh lemon juice, 2 cups of diced watermelon with 2 cups of water. Pulse until well combined and serve with ice, a fresh slice of lemon and a few spring berries. Enjoy!

VANILLA MOCHA FRAPPE

Frappes have to be my favourite icy beverage of all time. Forget going to Starbucks to pick up this perfect Spring treat when you can quiet easily make one at home. Here’s what to do to make my vanilla mocha version. In a blender combine 1 cup of ice, 1 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, 2 large scoops of vanilla ice cream, 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence with 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar. Pulse until combined and serve with a blob of cream and some choc chips. Yum!

So there you have it an easy to make Vanilla Mocha Frappe. By the way how cute are these Golden Half Mugs! They have the cuteness of a mason jar with the ease of a handle. I was so excited when they arrived yesterday. In case you’re interested I got mine from here.

Use the above recipe however; substitute the peppermint tea for vanilla. You can also use plain tea and add a few drops of vanilla essence or vanilla sugar.
