DIY CUCUMBER & TEA TREE FACIAL

It’s been a while since I created and posted a DIY Beauty recipe but today I finally got around to it. Today’s recipe is for a cucumber and tea tree facial mask. Cucumber is believed to aid in relaxation whilst it is suggested that tea tree reduces the redness of acne. Making this the perfect mask for stress induced breakouts. Making this mask is as easy as blending together 1/2 cup of chilled cucumber pieces with 1 tablespoon of tea tree oil and a few cubes of ice! To use generously cover a well rinsed face, add some cucumber slices to the eyes for good measure, relax and rinse. Enjoy!

PUMPKIN SPICE SUGAR SCRUB

In honour of the pumpkin spice craze I decided to make my very own and easy to make Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub. In order to make your own simply combine 2 cups of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of pumpkin spice mix (you can view my recipe here), 2 teaspoons of almond essence with 1/2 a cup of almond oil. Mix until well combined and store in an airtight container or jar. Enjoy!

STRAWBERRY & BROWN SUGAR BODY POLISH

What you need to do is simple. In a large bowl combine together 1 cup of brown sugar with 2 Tablespoons of strawberry essence, 3 tablespoons of water and a few drops of almond oil (Any oil works fine but I find almond oil absorbs into the skin the best). Mix until combined and store in an airtight container or jar.

Feel free to switch the strawberry essence for other varieties such as orange, peppermint and even chocolate.
Enjoy.

PS. The strawberry is from my own personal garden! If you remember a while back I planted a some strawberries and they actually bore fruit! You can read about it here.

DIY BEAUTY: REVITALISING LEMON & ROSEMARY BATH SOAK

This easy to make, inexpensive bath soak does wonders for your skin. Not only are all the ingredients natural and easy to come by they leave your skin feeling fresh and revitalised. Why this soak is so effective is all to do with the ingredients*:

Lemon is a natural antiseptic and has the ability to not only reduce the visibility of scars and acne but also acts as a natural exfoliant, removing dead skins cells.

Rosemary is believed to increase blood flow aiding in skin toning and firming. It also acts an an astringent reducing excess oil on the skin and helping acne.

Sea Salt is a natural exfoliant that is believed to increase blood flow and reduce fluid retention. Sea salt is also believed to relieve stress and aid in sleep.

Almond Oil adds moisture to the skin and can help relieve dry ichy skin. Unlike other oils almond oil is absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.

In a large bowl combine the juice of 2 lemons, Rind of 1/2 lemon, 2 tablespoons almond oil along with 500 grams of course sea salt and some rosemary leaves. Stir well and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. To use simply sprinkle a few spoonfuls of the mixture into a hot bath and allow yourself to soak.

DIY Beauty: Deep Conditioning Avocado & Lavender Hair Mask

8 Sep

What to do:

In a bowl whisk together 1 egg yolk, 1/2 a mashed avocado, 3 Tablespoons of olive oil and a few drops of lavender oil. Apply the mixture to wet hair and leave for about 15 minutes so the moisture really soaks into the hair shaft. Rinse well using cold water. It is important to use cool water to stop the yolk from cooking.
